In 1949, cold-rolled oriented thin silicon steel strip with a thickness of less than 0.1mm was made in the United States for use in the electronics industry. In 1957, the Federal Republic of Germany made cubic oriented silicon steel sheet, which has high longitudinal and transverse magnetism, but due to the complexity of the process, it has not been officially produced so far. Figure 2 is a schematic diagram of the grain arrangement in and oriented silicon steel sheets.
The magnetostriction of Si-Fe alloy containing 6.5% silicon is about zero, the permeability is high, the iron loss is low, and the transformer made of it is noiseless, but it is not widely used due to the difficulty of processing. In the 70s, 6.5Si-Fe microcrystalline thin strips were made by liquid fast cooling technology, and new varieties such as thinner oriented silicon steel sheets and surface textured (intergranular non-oriented) silicon steel sheets were developed.
