Silicon steel uses core loss (referred to as iron loss) and magnetic induction intensity (referred to as magnetic inductance) as the magnetic guarantee value of the product. The low loss of silicon steel saves a lot of power, extends the operating time of motors and transformers, and simplifies the cooling system. The power loss caused by the loss of silicon steel accounts for 2.5%~4.5% of the annual power generation, of which the iron loss of transformer accounts for about 50%, the small motor of 1~100kW accounts for about 30%, and the fluorescent lamp ballast accounts for about 15%.

Silicon steel has high magnetic inductance, and the excitation current of the core is reduced, which also saves electrical energy. The high magnetic inductance of silicon steel can make the maximum magnetic inductance (Bm) of the design high, the iron core is small in size and light in weight, saving silicon steel, wires, insulating materials and structural materials, etc., which not only reduces the loss and manufacturing cost of motors and transformers, but also facilitates assembly and transportation. The motor is made up of toothed round punches stacked into an iron core, and works in the running state. The silicon steel plate is required to be magnetically isotropic and manufactured with non-oriented silicon steel. The transformer is made of cold-rolled oriented silicon steel with large magnetic anisotropy and works in a stationary state by stacking strips into an iron core or winding a strip into an iron core. In addition, silicon steel is required to have good punching and shear properties, smooth and flat surface and uniform thickness, good insulating film and small magnetic aging.
