Rolling non-oriented silicon steel sheet is to hot-roll billet or continuous casting billet into strip coil with a thickness of about 2.3mm. In the manufacture of low-silicon products, the hot-rolled strip coil is pickled and cold-rolled to a thickness of 0.5mm. When manufacturing high-silicon products, the hot-rolled strip is pickled (or normalized at 800~850 °C and then pickled), cold-rolled to 0.55 or 0.37mm thick, annealed at 850 °C in a hydrogen-nitrogen mixed atmosphere continuous furnace, and then cold-rolled to 0.50 or 0.35mm thick by 6~10% small pressure rate.
This cold rolling with a small depressive rate allows the grain to grow and the iron loss to be reduced during annealing. Both cold-rolled plates are finally annealed at 850°C in a continuous furnace under a 20% hydrogen-nitrogen mixed atmosphere, and then coated with an insulating film of phosphate plus chromate. Grain-oriented silicon steel generally contains 3% Si, which requires a low oxide inclusion content in the steel, and must contain C0.03~0.05% and inhibitors (second phase diffuse particles or grain boundary segregation elements). The role of the inhibitor is to prevent the growth of the primary recrystallized grain and promote the development of secondary recrystallization, resulting in a high orientation
