Its interior is filled with adsorbent such as discolored silicone, which is used to absorb moisture from the air entering the rubber bag and diaphragm of the oil storage tank, ensuring that the air entering the oil storage tank is dry.

Normal drying is when the silicone of the respirator is blue. When the color of the silicone turns pink, it indicates that the silicone has become damp and ineffective. When the discoloration of silicone reaches 2/3, the duty personnel should notify the maintenance personnel to replace it.

What are the main reasons for the rapid discoloration of silicone

1. The weather is cloudy and rainy for a long time, and the air humidity is high. Due to the large amount of moisture absorption, it changes color too quickly.

2. The capacity of the respirator is too small.

3. The silicone glass jar has cracks or damage.

4. There is no oil or the oil level is too low in the lower oil seal cover of the respirator, which does not have a good sealing effect, causing wet air to enter the silicone tank directly without being filtered by the oil seal.

5. Improper installation of the respirator. If the silicone gasket is cracked and unqualified, the screws are loose, and the installation is not sealed.

In general, the discoloration of silicone in transformers is very slow, but when the operating environment is abnormal, installation process and product quality issues occur, the moisture absorption and discoloration of silicone accelerate, and even abnormal discoloration process occurs. At these times, we need to consider troubleshooting the transformer and replacing the transformer breather silica gel.
