Chemical Composition and Effects of Cold Rolled Silicon Steel
Silicon (Si): It is the main alloying element that can significantly increase the electrical resistivity of steel, reduce eddy current losses, increase magnetic permeability, and improve magnetic properties. Generally, the higher the silicon content, the higher the magnetic permeability, and the lower the iron loss. However, if the silicon content is too high, the material will become brittle and the processing performance will deteriorate.
Carbon (C): Carbon is a harmful element in silicon steel, which reduces magnetic permeability and increases hysteresis loss.
Strict control of carbon content is required in production, usually reducing it to extremely low levels (generally less than 0.005%).
Manganese (Mn): Moderate amounts of manganese can deoxidize and desulfurize, improving the quality and processing performance of steel. At the same time, it has a certain beneficial effect on magnetic properties and can improve magnetic permeability to a certain extent.
Phosphorus (P): Phosphorus can increase the electrical resistivity of steel and reduce iron loss, but excessive content can increase the cold brittleness of steel, which is generally controlled in a lower range.
