Introduction of Moisture Absorber

Moisture absorber is an important auxiliary equipment for transformers. Its main function is to control and manage the temperature and humidity of transformer oil to ensure the normal operation of the transformer and extend its service life.

Structure and Principle

Moisture absorber usually consists of the following parts:

Oil Cup: Located at the top of the breather, used to receive the vapor and gas of the transformer oil.

Desiccant: Filled in the oil cup, usually silica gel or activated carbon, used to absorb moisture in the oil.

Filter: Installed at the air inlet of the breather, used to prevent particles and impurities from entering the breather, keeping the desiccant clean and efficient.

Connecting Pipes: Connect the breather and the transformer oil tank so that the gas in the transformer can flow freely.

Working Principle

When the transformer is working, the oil inside will expand due to heat, and the expanded oil will release gas and steam. These gases and steam will enter the oil cup of the breather through the connecting pipe. In the oil cup, the desiccant begins to absorb the incoming moisture, keeping the oil dry and maintaining the oil quality inside the transformer.

Functions and Benefits

Protect oil quality: The desiccant can prevent the increase of moisture in the oil, avoid oxidation and degradation caused by moisture in the oil, and thus extend the service life of the transformer oil.

Prevent condensation: By controlling the gas humidity inside the transformer, condensation is prevented from forming inside the transformer or on the surface of the oil tank, protecting the transformer from moisture and humidity.

Improve insulation performance: Keeping the oil dry helps maintain the insulation performance of the transformer, reduce the moisture content in the insulating oil, and improve the insulation strength and electrical performance of the insulating oil.

Monitor the health status of the transformer: By observing the working condition of the desiccant and the status of the desiccant, the temperature and oil quality inside the transformer can be indirectly monitored, and possible problems of the transformer can be discovered in time.

Precautions for use

Regular maintenance: Regularly check and replace the desiccant in the desiccant to ensure that it maintains effective moisture absorption capacity.

Keep clean: Keep the air inlet and oil cup of the desiccant clean to prevent impurities and dust from entering the desiccant and affecting its working effect.

Choose the right desiccant: Choose the right desiccant type and specification according to the transformer's operating environment and requirements.

As an important auxiliary equipment for transformers, transformer desiccant plays a vital role in protecting the normal operation of transformers and extending their service life.
