Cork “Sliced” and “vulcanizing” are two completely different processes used to create softwood materials with different properties and uses. Here is a comparison of the two:
Defining the Differences:
1. Cork Veneer / Sliced Cork
is a physical process whereby a block of softwood logs is cut to create a thin slice of softwood material, which has a rougher appearance. 2.
2. Vulcanized Cork
is a chemical process in which cork particles are mixed with rubber (e.g., nitrile rubber, natural rubber) and vulcanized by heating and pressurizing to form a cork-rubber composite material, which is smoother in appearance and denser than sliced cork.
It is essentially a cork rubber mat or sheet with properties such as elasticity, oil resistance and abrasion resistance.
